Indefinite hunger strike enters third day

Hyderabad, Feb 25 (UNI) The indefinite hunger strike called by the leaders of the Kula Vivaksha Porata Sangham (KVPS), led by the CPI (M) State Secretary B V Raghavulu, demanding solution to the problems suffered by dalits, entered third day here today.

The indefinite hunger strike, which began at Indira Park here on Friday, was organised to press the government to announce more budget allocations and initiate special welfare schemes for the development of dalits in the state.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu visited the hunger strike camp and expressed his solidarity.

CHESCOM Assistant Engineer caught redhanded while accepting bribe

Madikeri, Mar 13 (UNI) A CHESCOM Assistant Engineer was caught red handed by Lokayukta sleuths while accepting a bribe for showing official favour. Lokayukta sources said Srinivas was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 5,000 as a bribe to install transformer from Capt. Madappa of Hulugunda near Siddapur yesterday. Capt Madappa had applied for regularisation of 20 H.P. motor to draw water from Cauvery River. He had paid Rs 28,000 fee and deposit to the Electricity Department. But Srinivas was demanding Rs.....

Phase-II unemployment allowance launched

Chennai, Feb 25 (UNI) Tamil Nadu government here today distributed the second phase of unemployment allowance to unemployed youths in the state. The programme was kickstarted by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi yesterday at Coimbatore, where he distributed unemployment allowance to about 7,000 youths. On the occasion, Local Administration Minister M K Stalin said ''government would disburse Rs 150 for the students, who passed tenth standard, Rs 200 for the youths, who passed 12th standard and Rs 300 for.....
