Hrithik, Kajol and 'Rang De Basanti' win laurels at Filmfare awards

Mumbai, Feb 25 (UNI) Bollywood stars Hrithik Roshan and Kajol won the 'Best Actor' and 'Best Actress' awards for their performance in 'Dhoom II' and 'Fanaa' respectively, at the prestigious Filmfare awards ceremony held at Yashraj Studios here late last night.

Rakyesh Mehra won the award for 'Best Director' for the film 'Rang De Basanti'. Abhishek Bachchan won the 'Best Supporting Actor' award for 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (KANK)' while Jaya Bachchan was given the Lifetime Achievement Award. It was a rare moment when Amitabh gave away the award to wife Jaya while Aishwarya gave the award to Abhishek. Receiving the award, Abhishek said, ''I thank my family for this.Ғ Konkana Sen won the 'Best Supporting Actress' award for 'Omkara', Arshad Warsi won the 'Best Actor in Comic Role' award for 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' whereas Saif Ali Khan was adjudged the 'Best Actor in Negative Role' for 'Omkara'.

A R Rahman won the 'Best Music' award for Rang De Basanti whereas Prasoon Joshi won the 'Best Lyrics' award for 'Fanaa'. Sunidhi Chauhan won the 'Best Playback - Female' award for 'Beedi' from 'Omkara' whereas Shaan and Kailash Kher won the award for 'Best Playback - Male' category.

'Critics award for the Best Film' was given to Rajkumar Hirani for 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' and 'Critics award for the Best Actor' was given to Aamir Khan for 'Rang De Basanti'. Kareena Kapoor won the 'Critics Award for Best Actress' for 'Omkara'.

'Power House Award' was given to veteran director Yash Chopra.

Jaya Bachchan and Javed Akhtar were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award.

The show was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Preity Zinta and Juhi Chawla. It will be broadcast on Sony TV at 1930 hrs tonight.

9th MAMI Internatinal Film Festival from March 8 to 15

Mumbai, Feb 25 (UNI) The 9th International Film Festival, Mumbai, (IFFM) presented by Adlabs and organised by the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI), will get under way at the Y B Chavan centre here from March 8. The week-long Festival, dedicated to the memory of the Late Hrishikesh Mukherjee, veteren filmmaker and Founder Chairman of the MAMI, will conclude on March 15. ESIC foundation day celebrated

Tirupati, Mar 1 (UNI) The 55th foundation day of the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) was celebrated here today. To Mark the celebrations a seminar was organised in which union leaders and ESIC doctors from Chittoor and Kadapa districts participated. Minister hands over 24 ambulances

Puducherry, Mar 1 (UNI) Puducherry Health Minister E Valsaraj along with Speaker R Radhakrishnan today handed over 24 ambulances to the community and Primary Health Centres here. At a function organised in front of the Gandhi statue on the Goubert avenue, Mr Valsaraj handed over the key of the ambulances purchased at a cost of Rs 95 lakh. Of the 24 ambulances, 15 vehicles would be for Puducherry region and the rest for Karaikal. Health secrtetary Mr Balakrishnan, Director Health.....
