Four youth attempt to commit suicide during Kalam's visit

Gulbarga, Karnataka, Feb 25 (UNI) Four youth, students of Industrial Training Centre here, attempted to commit suicide in the presence of President A P J Abdul Kalam during his visit to Srinivas Saradgi village in this district today.

Police sources said that the four youth, took out a bottle containing pesticide and consumed it during the function attended by the President it to protest against not being offered jobs despite completing their training at the centre, which was run by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd.

Police immediately rushed the youth to a hospital. Doctors at the hospital said all the four were out of danger.

President Kalam was in the district to launch 'Suvarna Gramodaya' programme in the village, which was one of the 1000 villages identified by the state government for all round development.

Woman killed by tiger

Umaria, MP, Feb 23 (UNI) A woman has been killed in an attack by a tigress at forest in the Bandhavgarh National Park in this district, park sources said today. Lunia Bai (45) and four other women had gone to the Tala range in the park yesterday afternoon to collect wood when they were attacked by the tigress. Lunia died on the spot. MP's power stations' output less

Bhopal, Feb 23 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh's thermal power stations have registered a decline in generation, the Assembly was informed today. In a written reply to Mr Ajay Singh (Congress), Power Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said, ''in 2002-03, the output was 14,559.94 million units and that fell to 14,015.13 mln units in the following fiscal and further declined to 13,540.82 mln units in 2005-06.'' Blaming technical problems, he added that 257 instances of wire theft -- a total length of 663 km --.....
