Four students attempt to commit suicide during Kalam's visit

Gulbarga, Karnataka, Feb 25 (UNI) Four students of an Industrial Training Centre here made a suicide attempt in the presence of President A P J Abdul Kalam during his visit to Srinivas Saradgi village in this district today.

Police said the students and consumed pestidicide during the function attended by the President to protest against not being offered jobs despite completing their training at the centre, which was run by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd.

The police immediately rushed the students to a hospital. Doctors at the hospital said all the four were out of danger.

The President was in the district to launch the 'Suvarna Gramodaya' programme in the village, which was one of the 1000 villages identified by the state government for all-round development.

Policemen held for raping minor

Palanpur, Feb 26 (UNI) a Policeman, attached to the city police station, was today arrested on charges of raping a minor girl at his residence in the police headquarters here. Constable Madhu Bhai Kantilal had lured a 16-year-old girl, from a bus stop yesterday morning, to his residence and allegedly raped her. Mumbai, Feb 26 (UNI) Zee Television, Marathi, has challenged a lower court's order against it in a cheating case filed by a lawyer-cum-social activist. Two debt ridden farmers end lives in Akola

Akola, Feb 26 (UNI) Two farmers committed suicide in the last 24 hours in Akola district, despite the special packages for farmers implemented by government agencies. According to police, a 30-year-old farmer Santosh Mahadeo Dandle of Paras village, near here, committed suicide by hanging himself at his house yesterday.
