Fake currency notes worth Rs three lakh seized

New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) The Delhi Police have busted a racket in Delhi relating to fake currency notes with the recovery of fake Indian currency of Rs 500 denomination from a resident of Amritsar, Punjab.

Raj Kumar alias Vicky was arrested by a team of the Crime Branch of Delhi Police from Sarai Kale Khan in South Delhi on February 18 when he was delivering a consignment of fake currency notes to a decoy customer.

He was found carrying a bag containing 500 rupee notes worth Rs 2.9 lakh. However, the currency notes were found to be fake.

The quality of currency notes is such that it cannot be detected without the aid of ultraviolet light. It is believed that the counterfeit currency notes were manufactured from outside India and then smuggled across the border and clandestinely distributed in India as genuine.

Interrogation of Raj Kumar revealed that he used to get the fake currency notes from Taran Taran Amritsar.

A case vide FIR No 91/07 u/s 489(B) and 489(C) IPC was registered at PS Hazrat Nizamuddin against the accused.

Efforts are on to identify and arrest other persons who may be involved in the racket.

Two people shot at in East Delhi; one arrested

New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) Two people were injured when unidentified gunmen barged into their house and opened fire at them in East Delhi this evening. Two armed men entered the victims' house in Farsh Bazar area at 1915 hrs and shot at fiftytwo-year-old Kulbahar Singh. His daughter also sustained injuries, police said. Pratapgarh, Feb 25 (UNI) A local court here acquitted Uttar Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Minister and controversial Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias 'Raja Bhaiyya', his father Udai Pratap Singh along with 17 of their supporters. On May 31, 1997, a Madarsa principal Asratullah Naqvi had lodged an FIR against Raja Bhaiyya, his father and others, alleging he had been assaulted by them. Hearing the case last evening, local court judge Naresh Kumar acquitted the accused for lack of evidence......
