Change in governments should not hinder development: Kalam

Gulbarga, Feb 25 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today said any change in the government should not come in the way of development of a State and the Country.

''In development of a country, change in parties that hold reigns of administration should not become the cause for reversing or hindering the development process that was already initiated so that citizens do not become the victims of the change. Always there should be a healthy competition in development,'' he said Speaking after launching Karnataka government's Rural Development initiative 'Survana Gramodaya' to develop 1000 villages every year under at Srinivasa Saragi village near here, he said in a democracy, opposition was common when new projects was taken up by the ruling party, but there should be an united effort by all parties for development of the State and the Country.

Dr Kalam said the Bhaktara PURA in Arang Tehsil of Raipur District in Chhatisgarh, launched recently to cover 22 villages with a population of 36,000 people was coming up very soon and it would be a vibrant PURA with high quality Four lane roads with battery operated and Bio-diesel buses, 1000 modern dwelling units, quality health care facility with 250 bed hospital and a state-of-the-art school by DAV Institution and paramedical and nursing training institutions coming up.

Complementing the Karnataka government for taking up 'Suvarna Gramodaya' project, he said it was understood that through the project, the government aims at upgrading the physical environment, increasing the productive capacity of agriculture and other land based activities, human resource development by opening up of avenues for non-agricultural employment and community building activities in 1000 selected villages every year.

Development Authority for Bundelkhand proposed

Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) Concerned over development of the backward Bundelkhand region, the Madhya Pradesh government has proposed to set up a Bundelkhand Development Authority (BDA), Finance Minister Raghavji announced in the Assembly today. While presenting the Budget for 2007-08, he said that the BDA would prepare development schemes keeping in view the region's special circumstances. Free cycles to MP girls

Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe girls studying in the sixth standard and higher in Madhya Pradesh will be provided bicycles free of cost, the government announced in the Assembly today. Presenting the Budget for 2007-08, Finance Minister Raghavji said that about 1.40 lakh girls who had to cover distances of more than a kilometre to reach schools were expected to benefit. About 1.18 lakh girls studying in high schools were benefited under an existing free cycle scheme......
