Asom's budget session from tomorrow

Guwahati, Feb 25 (UNI) The budget session of the Asom Assembly will begin tomorrow with the state's budget for the fiscal 2007-08 to be placed in the House on March 12.

The budget would be presented by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who also holds the Finance portfolio.

This would be the second budget of the Congress government, after it retained power in the state in last year's Assembly polls.

Mr Gogoi had presented a Rs 1995.48 crore deficit budget last May after forming the government in coalition with the Bodoland People's Progressive Front.

Meanwhile, security blanket has been thrown around the state Assembly, with heavy deployment of security personnel in adjoining areas also.

Besides regulation of traffic movement, checking of vehicles and frisking has also been undertaken at different points in the city.

The budget session would conclude on March 31.

No microphones for Ram Dev's yoga camp in Kolkata: HC

Kolkata, Mar 10 (UNI) The Calcutta High Court has rejected a petition seeking permission to use microphones during a six-day yoga camp of Baba Ram Dev starting March 21. A Division Bench of Chief Justice S S Nijjar and Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya rejected the petition yesterday by the Biswa Jagriti Mission, challenging a notice issued by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board. Two girls killed in road mishap

Khagaria, Feb 25 (UNI) Two girls were crushed to death by a speeding truck near Matihani village on National Highway 31 under Mansi police station here today. Police said the incident took place when the victims were returning to their residence after collecting fodder. The victims have been identified, police added. UNI.....

Govt school teacher arrested for commiting fraud

Koderma, Mar 10 (UNI) Police arrested a school teacher along with his son for allegedly taking money for employing youths from the Devi mandap road in Jharkhand's Koderma district today. Police said Shyamdeo Rai and his son were arrested from their house in the Jhumri Tillaya area here. Three separate cases had been registered against the culprits in Jhumri Tillaya police station for taking Rs 12 lakhs fraduently for providing employment. Besides, more cases of forgery had also been registerd.....
