Ashok Kumar wins Solaris global Green Open Golf title

Bangalore, Feb 25 (UNI) Overnight leader Ashok Kumar, producing his best with a sizzling six-under-par 64 in the final round, won the Rs 60-lakh Solaris Global Open Golf played at Bangalore Golf Club here today.

Ashok Kumar edged out SSP Chaurasia, who burst on the scene returning the best card of day with a seven-under 63 from his overnight joint third spot two strokes adrift, but fell shy by a single stroke. Ashok pocketted the winners purse of Rs 9,72,000 with a tournament total of 14-under 266.

The winner played aggressively shooting birdies on the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 13th and 15th holes and capped it with an eagle in the 14th. However, he dropped shots in the 9th and 11th, but still emerged as the winner.

"I tried my best to hit the greens and make birdies but I did not want to loose any pars. The eagle on the 14th hole was the turning point and it pumped me up", said beaming Ashok.

Chowrasia played some brilliant golf to finish a close second but still fell shy by a stroke. Birdies on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd holes and bogies on the 5th, 7th and 8th holes levelled up the advantage at the turn. However, he bounced back with a series of seven birdies in the back nine, on the 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th holes.

"My hitting was excellent today. However, I need to maintain my rhythm over all four days. I am slowing down while getting there", said Chowrasia.
