Agitation against final verdict of CWDT continues

Mysore, Feb 25 (UNI) Agitation against the final verdit of Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT) continued in the Cauvery basin districts of Mysore, Mandya and Chamarajanagara today.

In Mandya district, the protest got a boost with former Mysore University Vice Chancellor and renowned writer De JE Gowda joining the agitation. Freedom fighters of the Mandya district staged a dharna in support to the agitation. The construction workers took out a huge bullock cart procession.

The Autorickshaw drivers took out a rally from Srirangapatna to Mandya demanding justice. Dharna and Rasta Roko were reported from many parts of the District.

In Mysore, some residents took out a motorbike rally shouting slogans against the verdict. Members of various other organisations continued their agitation.

Police said no untoward incident was reported.

33 per cent reservation for women in TTD institutions

Tirumala, Feb 25 (UNI) Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board, the highest decision making body of Lord Venkateswara temple here, today decided to reserve 33 per cent seats for women in TTD educational institutions. They had also decided to celebrate Kaisika Dwadasi in 108 dalitwadas in Andhra Pradesh on Nov 21 this year. Sahasra Deepalankara Seva would be introduced in Goddess Padmavathi Ammavaru temple in Tiruchanoor, TTD Chairman B Karunakar Reddy said here after the board meeting. The board also.....

Local train passenger shot dead; money snatched from possession

Barasat, Mar 14 (UNI) Miscreants shot dead a businessman in a local train compartment near Ashoknagar railway station of Sealdah-Bongaon section of the Eastern Railway this morning. According to Government Railway Police here, the victim Biswanath Das was going to Habra. Some miscreants stopped the train near Ashoknagar railway station and shot at him. They allegedly snatched the cash that he was carrying and fled. Mr Das was admitted to Habra State General Hospital from where he was transferred to.....

Mahek Ahuja denied bail, remanded to 14 days judicial custody

Barrackpore, Mar 14 (UNI) The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court today denied bail and remanded Mahek Ahuja to judicial custody for 14 days. She was produced before the court, as directed by it on March 12. She was kept in police custody for the last two days. Airport police registered a case against her under the Suppression of Unlawful Act against Safety of Civil Aviation, adding section 507 of the IPC She was arrested for criminal intimidation by an anonymous.....
