Unseasonal rainfall, hailstorm lashes western MP, farmers worried

Bhopal, Feb 24 (UNI) Unseasonal rainfall and hailstorm in Gwalior and Sagar divisions of Madhya Pradesh has badly affected the standing crops.

Meteorological department said crops suffered heavy damages in Sheopur district because of rainfall and hailstorm. Strong winds have buffeted the district since morning.

Bherulal was killed when lightning struck him while he was grazing cattle at Vasundhar village in the district.

Heavy rains and strong winds lashed Shivpuri district and nearby regions since morning, bringing down temperature, while the state capital experienced winds along with cloudy sky.

The weather department has predicted showers accompanied with lightning in Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Gwalior, Chambal, Sagar and Indore divisions.

According to UNI reports from Shivpuri and Sheopur, standing wheat, mustard and lentil crops are likely to suffer damages.

Unseasonal rainfall and hailstorm had lashed several parts of the state in the second week of February causing severe damages to standing crops.

Air Force official arrested on bribery charges

Hyderabad, Mar 7 (UNI) Sleuths of CBI and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today registered a case against an airforce official, who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant. According to an official release here, the sleuths arrested B Babu Rao, Personal Assistant to Air Officer Commanding at Air Force Station, Hakimpet and recovered the tainted amount from him. The complainant was an employee of the Air Force Station against whom departmental proceedings has been initiated recently......

'India has failed to project its coffee in Chinese market'

Bangalore, Feb 24 (UNI) India has failed to penetrate the vast coffee markets in China and Hong Kong as it had not projected itself despite producing a world standard commodity, Coffee and Tea Academy of Hong Kong and China Chairman Barry Chi Tak Yuen said today. Speaking at a session on 'Trends and Prospects in International Coffee Market', organised as part of the India International Coffee Festival-2007 by the Coffee Board here, he said coffee growers like Brazil, Colombia and Vietnam.....

HC directs Centre to issue entry permit to Nalani's daughter

Chennai, Mar 7 (UNI) The Madras High Court today directed the Union Government to issue an entry permit within four weeks to Megara, daughter of Nalini, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, to enable her to come to India. A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Mr Justice K Chandru, gave the above directive while allowing an appeal filed by Nalini, seeking a direction to the Centre to permit her daughter to come to.....
