Two LeT militants, two army jawans killed in Rajouri

Jammu, Feb 23 (UNI) Two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants and two Army jawans were killed in an encounter at the general area of Thanamandi in Rajouri this morning.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Farooq Khan told UNI that army personnel of 43 Rashtriya Rifles along with state police, acting on a tip-off, cordoned off Raina Mohalla of Thanamandi for search operations.

During the search operation, militants opened fire on them, resulting in the death of a jawan. The army personnel retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, two LeT militants were shot dead and another jawan, Anand Kumar, was killed.

The slain militants have been identified as Abu Umar and Abu Mawai of Pakistani origin.

Police said two AK 47 assault rifles were recovered from the militant's possesion.

Meanwhile, a caller identifying himself as spokesman of al-Mansoorian outfit Amir Mir claimed responsibility of attack on the troops.

CM says Oppn stalled proceedings on withdrawn GO

Hyderabad, Feb 23 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy alleged that the Opposition had unnecessarily wasted valuable time of the Assembly and forced its adjournment for the day today, without transacting any business on a GO that was withdrawn. Police to launch crack down on outfits with LTTE links: CM

Chennai, Feb 23 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has directed the police to launch crack down on outfits and political parties, which were aiding the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the state, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said toady. Answering a set of questions, Mr Karunanidhi said if any clandestine network, as commented upon by a leading English daily in its editorial, was found correct, the police would take stern action against such organisations and political parties without any.....

Cong condemns Oppn for stalling proceedings in Assembly

Hyderabad, Feb 23 (UNI) The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today strongly condemned the Opposition for stalling the proceedings of the Assembly for the second consecutive day today and forcing its adjournment without transacting any business.
