Three killed in group rivalry

Ara (Bihar), Feb 23 (UNI) At least three persons were killed at Jagdishpur bazar under police station of Ara in Bhojpur district today following dispute between two liquor vendors.

Police said two people were lynched and another one was shot dead.Details of the incident said that authorised liquor vendor Vinod Kumar had an altercation with one Shashi Gupta who was carrying out liquor vending bussiness without any license.

In the process Vinod and his associate Pannu Lal opened fire on shashi, who succumbed to his injuries during treatment in a local hospital.

Irated people of the area beat Vinod and Pannu black and blue.

Both of them died later in a hospital.

Forest officials should be accountable for deforestation: SC

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Supreme Court today expressed serious concern on sharp depletion of forest areas in the country when informed by the amicus curiae Harish Salve that the country has lost about 26000 sq km of forest area due to illegal cutting and selling of trees. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices Arijit Pasayat and S H Kapadia said the time has come to fix accountability of the forest officials concerned for allowing unchecked.....

SC notice to Coca Cola in compensation case in Jaipur

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notices on a petition filed by Hindustan Coca Cola challenging the order of District Consumer Forum, Jaipur, directing it to pay a compensation of Rs 27,000 to a buyer. A bench comprising Justices B N Agarwal and P P Naolekar issued notices to Sita Devi and the other respondent, who had filed a complaint when a foreign body was found floating in a bottle of Thumbs Up on June 5, 2004......

HC refuses to grant stay on release of Amitabh starrer 'Nishabd'

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Delhi High Court today reserved its order on a petition seeking a stay on the release of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Nishabd' claiming that the film's title was plagiarised from a Bengali movie of a similar name. Justice A K Sikri said the order would be pronounced next week before Friday, the scheduled release date of Ram Gopal Varma's movie.
