Surveyor sentenced to 6 months RI for accepting bribe

Bangalore, Feb 24 (UNI) A Second Division Surveyor in Bagalkot district has been convicted and sentenced to undergo six months rigorous imprisonment in a case relating to accepting bribe for showing official favour.

The Bagalkot Principal District and Sessions Court had convicted Shanthappa Mahanthappa Tariwal, working in the Bagalkot Taluk Survey office, under the Prevention of Corruption Act and slapped a fine of Rs 25,000, in default to undergo one year's simple imprisonment.

Tariwal was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe amount of Rs 350 on September 24, 2002, to issue P.T sheet Khata certificate to the complainant, Ramappa Hanamappa Gadagi.

MPVL dispatches indelible ink for UP elections

Mysore, Feb 24 (UNI) The state owned Mysore Paints and Varnish ltd. (MPVL) has dispatched indelible ink bottles worth Rs 1.5 crore to Lucknow for the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh elections to be held in seven phases from April seven. MPVL Chairman Ravishankar told UNI that about 361 boxes of delible ink, each containing 700 bottles of ink were dispatched by road to Bangalore last evening and they would be airlifted to Lucknow. He said about 1,10,000 booths would be established.....

Agumbe records the lowest minimum temperature of 6.4 deg. celsius

Bangalore, Feb 24 (UNI) Following is a summary of observations recorded by the weather office at 0830 hours today. Dry weather prevailed over the State. Minimum temperatures changed little over the State. They were below normal at most places being appreciably so at a few places over North Interior Karnataka; appreciably below normal at many places over South Interior Karnataka and below normal at many places over Coastal Karnataka. Agumbe recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 6.4 degree celsius.....

Congmen arrested during eviction of unauthorised dwellers

Udupi, Feb 24 (UNI) Over 19 Congressmen including former MP, Vinay Kumar Soarake, former MLA from Karkala, Gopal Bandary, the DCC President M A Gafoor were today arrested when they tried to disrupt the eviction work of unauthorised occupation by 45 families at Admar in the Tenka Yermal Gram Panchayat in Udupi district.
