Sri Lankan girl arrested with fake passport

Chennai, Feb 24 (UNI) A Sri Lankan girl was arrested at the international airport here today when she tried to board a Kuwait airways flight, enroute to France, with a fake passport.

Airport sources said the girl Dhasini (20), hailing from Trincomallee in the island nation, had completed Plus two and wanted to pursue higher studies.

Since she could not get direct visa to France from Colombo, she came to Chennai and later moved to Tiruchirapalli, where she obtained a fake passport and a visa to France through an agent.

During immigration checks, officials found that the passport was fake.

Later, she was handed over to the Airport police, who arrested her and remanded her in judicial custody.

Govt notifies kabuli chana exports

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) The Government today notified export of dollar gram (kabuli chana) to be routed through the Joint Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in Hyderabad and Bhopal. Joint DGFT, Hyderabad, has been allocated 10,000 metric tonnes (MTs) and Jt DGFT, Bhopal, has been allocated 20,000 MTs. The allocated quantities will be allowed for export on first-come-first-served and pro-rata basis, a statement of the Department of Commerce said here. The step has been taken to.....

Person arrested for circulating fake notes

Shillong, Feb 25 (UNI) Meghalaya Police has arrested one person for circulating fake currency notes in the state. The accused, who hails from Nagaland, was arrested yesterday from DumDum area here along with 18 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination notes, Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang today said. Mr Kharkrang had cautioned the public in this regard. He said the counterfiet currency notes were in circulation in large scale in Asom and other states. '' The notes are delivered.....

Speed Post network extends to 25 towns

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Speed Post service will be extended to 25 more towns in the national network from March 1, aiming to provide more convenience to the customers. The new speed post centres include 12 in Tamil Nadu, six each in Haryana and Karnataka and one in West Bengal. All these centres will be fully computerised and will have 'Speednet' online tracking system in place. Apart from operations, these centres will have customer service centre and speed post.....

Smuggler killed by BSF near Bangladesh border

Krishnagar, Feb 25 (UNI) Border Security Force killed one smuggler and recovered six cows at Gada near Bangladesh border near here today, BSF sources said. The smuggler, Janu Mikari (25) was apprehended by the BSF when he was smuggling the cows into Bangladesh. When he tried to escape the BSF opened fire.
