School teacher held

Nadiad, Feb 24 (UNI) Police have arrested a school teacher for allegedly causing serious head injuries to an eight-year-old student at village Kapadwanj in Kheda district.

Sources in the Kapadwanj Police Station said the teacher, Narendra Patel, of Government School beat Arbaj Malick (studying in Standard III), when he sought permission from Patel to go to a mosque for 'namaaz' yesterday. However, the teacher became angry and thrashed the boy, in which Arbaj sustained serious head injuries.

Later, he was rushed to the civic hospital at Ahmedabad for treatment.

Patel was apprehended last night following a complaint by the boy's father under section 337 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Police had heightened the security in the area following the incident, they added.

ECR CPRO surrenders, released on bail

Patna, Feb 24 (UNI) East Central Railway's Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) A K Chandra today surrendered before Patna Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Sushma Sinha, who had granted him bail in connection with a fraud case. Mr Chandra was involved in issuing a press note at Hajipur on a Press Information Bureau (PIB) letterhead, without any authorisation. The CJM had released Mr Chandra on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 10,000 and two sureties of like amount, as he was earlier.....

J'khand cabinet approves guv's budget speech

Ranchi, Feb 27 (UNI) The Jharkhand cabinet today approved the Governor's customary speech to be read on the opening day of budget session beginning March second. The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Madhu Koda also approved one ex-cadre of DGP rank with retrospective effect from June last year, cabinet secretary J B Tubid said. Miscreants rob Rs five lakhs from Contractor

Rourkela, Feb 24 (UNI) Three unidentified miscreants looted Rs five lakh from a transport contractor at gun point at Daraikala under Bonai Police station, about 65 kms from here today. Police said the contractor was carrying the cash and was going to a nearby sponge iron factory at Daraikala when the miscreants intercepted his motorcycle and looted the cash. Police said investigation was on and they would soon arrest the miscreants. UNI.....
