Revenue official arrested for accepting bribe in Kashmir

Baramulla, Feb 24 (UNI) A woman clerk of tehsil office here was caught red handed while accepting a bribe, by Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation (VO) today.

Official sources said that a complaint was received that clerk in the tehsil office was demanding Rs 1,500 bribe for releasing a document.

They said a trap was laid and the clerk Rifat Ara was caught red handed while accepting the bribe. The bribe money was recovered from her in presence of an independent witnesses.

A case has been registered in the police station vigilance, Kashmir.

Police fires several rounds to calm AMU students, 35 wounded

Aligarh, Feb 24 (UNI) Police today fired several rounds in the air to disperse a mob of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students after they clashed with the police, following a dispute with a local builder. The clash, that lasted for four hours, left at least 35 persons, including 14 policemen and 20 students, severely wounded. A group of AMU students fought a pitched battle with the police, resorting to firing, stone pelting and setting afire a police outpost, several anti-riot vehicles.....

High court says Farmer leader Beniwal's detention illegal

Jaipur, Feb 24 (UNI) Rajasthan High court has asked the state government to release farmer leader and former MLA Hetram Beniwal forth with as his detention is illegal. A division bench of Justices Shiv kuamr Sharma and R C Chauhan while hearing a habeas corpus by advocate Vikram Singh Nain yesterday directed the government to ''set Beniwal at liberty forthwith'' as his detention is illegal. The government had detained the former CPM MLA in connection with the on going.....

Police arrest boat driver

Kochi, Feb 24 (UNI) Police today arrested Raju (46), the driver of the ill boat which capsized in the Periyar river killing 18 people on board on Tuesday. Police said Raju was arrested this morning from his wife's house in Pothenikaddu, near Thodupuzha here. He was arrested under Section 304 of the IPC and would be produced before the Kothamagalam court this evening, police said. The victims, including 15 school children, were part of a group of 118, including ten teachers.....
