Pakistani taken to Panipat for interrogation

Bulandshahr, Feb 24 (UNI) A Pakistan national, Zahid, arrested here in connection with the Delhi-Atari Samjhauta Express train blast on February 18 last, has been taken to Panipat for interrogation.

Senior Superintendent of Police M Padmaja said Zahid had recently come to India and his visa was expiring in March, 2007. He had been staying in Sikandrabad area of the district.

During the validity period of viza, Zahid had informed that he was going back to Pakistan. But when he did not reach, a report was received from there.

Later, the Panipat police held Zahid.

Two days back, Zahid along with several other suspects from Aligarh were taken to Panipat where the blast took place last Sunday.

Dhumal's defamation case against Amarinder deferred to April 7

Shimla, Feb 24 (UNI) A local court here today adjourned the hearing in the defamation case, filed by former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister P K Dhumal against Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and senior Congress leader Moti Lal Vora, to April 7 this year after the Congress leaders sought exemption from personal appearance in the court. Police fires several rounds to calm AMU students, 35 wounded

Aligarh, Feb 24 (UNI) Police today fired several rounds in the air to disperse a mob of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students after they clashed with the police, following a dispute with a local builder. The clash, that lasted for four hours, left at least 35 persons, including 14 policemen and 20 students, severely wounded. A group of AMU students fought a pitched battle with the police, resorting to firing, stone pelting and setting afire a police outpost, several anti-riot vehicles.....

High court says Farmer leader Beniwal's detention illegal

Jaipur, Feb 24 (UNI) Rajasthan High court has asked the state government to release farmer leader and former MLA Hetram Beniwal forth with as his detention is illegal. A division bench of Justices Shiv kuamr Sharma and R C Chauhan while hearing a habeas corpus by advocate Vikram Singh Nain yesterday directed the government to ''set Beniwal at liberty forthwith'' as his detention is illegal. The government had detained the former CPM MLA in connection with the on going.....
