Mini bus plunges into ditch, 25 injured

Puducherry, Feb 24 (UNI) Twentyfive persons were injured when the bus in which they were travelling fell into a ditch at Uruvayar, near here today.

Police said the driver lost control over the vehicle while trying to avoid hitting an elderly man crossing the road at Uruvayar Thirukkanji.

The driver and 24 women workers of a private industrial unit at Katterikuppam, were injured in the mishap.

While 16 of the injured were admitted to the Thavalakuppam primary health centre, the rest were rushed to the government general hospital here, police said.

Two constables commit suicide

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Mar 8 (UNI) Two police constables today committed suicide in tribal-dominated and naxalism-affected Bastar division, the police said. Mizoram Battalion Constable Falta Kima (38), posted in Dantewada district's Konta, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound from his service rifle at a camp this morning. The motive was unclear. Bastar district (also the name of the division) police Constable Magan Devangan hanged himself at his residence here. He was ill for the past few days and on leave. UNI.....

4 held, 44 kg ganja seized

Tuni, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 8 (UNI) Police today arrested four persons and seized 44 kg ganja worth Rs 63,000 at Kottam Centre. According to police here, four persons were peddling in ganja. Based on a tip off, B Baddaiah, G Srinivas, N Appala Naidu and K Demudu were arrested and made the seizure when they alighted from a bus at Tuni Kottam Centre. UNI.....

Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, Mar 8 (UNI) Police arrested 33 CPI (M) volunteers for allegedly damaging BSNL's cable network at Thirukkandalam Village near here today. Police said on March five, a group of CPI(M) volunteers dug up the road to prevent plying of sand lorries used for illegal sand mining. In the process, the BSNL cables in the area were severely damaged thereby disrupting the communication network. Based on a complaint from BSNL authorities, police today arrested the accused despite strong protests......

MNR medical college director arrested

Sangareddy, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 8 (UNI) Police today arrested MNR Medical College Director Ravi Varma for his alleged involvement in the recent attack on a local TV channel crew. Police said a search was on to nab another Director Vasu Varma. They said Varma would be produced before the court. A local television channel reporter and his colleagues were allegedly attacked by the Directors of the MNR medical college a few days ago while covering the alleged irregularities of the.....
