Loot attempt in Union Bank; watchman attacked

Surat, Feb 24 (UNI) A watchman at the ATM centre of the Union Bank was attacked by a few dacoits after an attempt to loot the centre had failed, on Udhna-Magdella Road near South Gujarat University.

According to police, a three-member gang entered the ATM counter of Union Bank and asked the watchman of the bank Kumvarsingh Sriramnath Jathak(35) to hand over the key of the ATM machine room yesterday.

When he resisted, the gang attacked him with wooden poles and escaped from the spot, police said.

The watchman was later admitted to the Civil Hospital with injuries on his head.

Umra police has begun an investigation, sources said.

Surat, Feb 24 (UNI) Robbers looted Rs 20,000 from a school after beating up the watchman yesterday. Police said three miscreants entered the Ratan Vidyamandir Devjipura School in Sonagadh taluka and beat up the watchman, Ramsingh Gamit, and later tied him to a pillar. Rajkot, Feb 24 (UNI) The Junagadh Police seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor worth about rs 2.75 lakh from Gandhigram area of Junagadh city, last night. Acting on a tip off, A police party raided a house at Gandhigram area and recovered 927 bottles of various brands of liquor valued at about rs 2.75 Lakh and arrested a House owner Bhima Rana and his son Bhupat. Sadhu suggests creation of a system to strengthen Marathi language

Gold and silver worth 17 lakhs looted

Gandhidham, Gujarat Feb 24 (UNI) As many as ten to fifteen unidentified miscreants robbed gold and silver worth Rs 17 lakhs from a goldsmith who was returning home from his jewellery shop in the town last night. Police sources said the miscreants, who came on motorbikes, had intercepted the goldsmith travelling on his two-wheeler at Sector five road. Court slashes maintenance for kid by Rs 100

Akola, Feb 24 (UNI) A local sessions court has reduced the maintenance of a three-year-old kid by Rs 100, on the basis that both the father and mother of the child are earning members of the family, while allowing the revision plea filed by the father. According to the decision, the kid will now get Rs 400 as maintenance instead of Rs 500, official sources said.
