Local Councillor, brother arrested for beating Polytechnic student

Aligarh, Feb 24 (UNI) Police today arrested a local councillor and his brother, for allegedly beating a student of the Polytechnic College here.

Municipal Councillor Parvez and his brother Shahzad were arrested after Aligarh Muslim University students went on a rampage, damaging shops and vehicles, on Medical Road to protest last evening's incident.

They also pelted stones at the residence of the Councillor following which Parvez allegedly fired in the air to scare them off.

Police later intervened and brought the situation under control.

It arrested the councillor and his brother after AMU Vice-Chancellor Naseem Ahmed intervened.

House tax defaulters face rotten garbage up front!

Allahabad, Feb 24 (UNI) Allahabad Nagar Nigam has adopted a unique method for realisation of house tax from defaulters. The officials selected five big defaulters in posh civil lines area here and dumped truck loads of rotten garbage in front of their houses. Jabalpur, Mar 7 (UNI) Panic gripped local railway station after spread of a rumour about a bomb and foreigners' presence in the saloon of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Jabalpur. Haryana gives Rs 55 cr compensation to farmers

Chandigarh, Feb 24 (UNI) The Haryana government has provided a sum of Rs 55 crore to the farmers of three districts of Ambala, Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra as compensation for acquiring their land for construction of Shahbad Dadupur Nalvi Canal.
