Law student, 3 others arrested for loot

Varanasi, Feb 24 (UNI) Police today solved last night's bus loot case with the arrest of four youth, including a law student, from Lanka area here.

Police said Sohan Lal, Shyam Sunder, Jitendra Bahadur and Hemant Singh were arrested near Ravidas Temple.

On interrogation, the quartet admitted to looting an Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus near Vishwa Sundari bridge in Lanka area.

Two countrymade pistols, two knives, a motorcycle and Rs 7,600 in cash were recovered from them.

Sohan Lal, a third year law student at Harischandra College here, was the mastermind of the crime and had also worked as temporary bus conductor in the past.

Meanwhile, a reward of Rs 7,500 has been announced for the police team, sources added.

Thomas Cook to split shares

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Travel solutions provider Thomas Cook India Ltd today said it will split its shares of Rs 10 face value each to Re 1 each to increase the liquidity of its stock in the market. With this, the number of shares of the company will be 34.58 crore. However, the paid up capital of the company stands unchanged at Rs 16.07 crore. Monica case hearing posted for Feb 26

Bhopal, Feb 24 (UNI) A local court today posted the hearing of the fake passport case involving extradited underworld don Abu Salem and his girlfriend Monica Bedi for February 26. The hearing was scheduled for today but could not take place and now the ruling on a defence application urging conversion of witnesses into accused will be heard on February 26. On February 22, after hearing the conclusion of arguments on the defence application, Chief Judicial Magistrate Raveendra Singh had reserved.....

Decline in employment arrested, says Economic Survey

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) The declining trend in employment has been reversed, according to the Economic Survey 2006-07. The employment has increased from an annual 2.1 per cent in the 10 years ending 1993-94 to 1.6 per cent in the five years ending 1999-2000 to 2.5 per cent in the five years ending 2004-05. Calling this trend an encouraging development, the survey nevertheless adds that there is need for faster employment growth for not only absorbing the addition.....
