IMA urges JAC

Imphal, Feb 24 (UNI) Indian Medical Association President A Vivekananda has appealed to the Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed by the family members of a woman who died on February 19 in RIMS, to call off their strike.

IMA has further urged RIMS doctors to reopen their services, which they closed down after two female doctors were allegly assaulted by the public.

The Joint Action Committee formed by the party of the deceased woman had called a general strike and has also threatened to call a blockade on NH-39 and NH-53 in the state from February 28 next.

The IMA said the people tend to take the law in their own hands without fully ascertaining the situation.

Dr Mohen said the doctors and the teaching staff have decided to close down the casualty of the RIMS and will remain closed till tomorrow.

The RIMS Superintendent said talks were held at Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's chamber last night between RIMS authorities and members of the JAC.

However, the talks failed.

CCTVs at Guwahati platforms

Guwahati, Feb 24(UNI) The N F Railway has chalked out a plan to instal close circuit television sets (CCTVs) at six important railway stations in the insurgency-affected Asom as part of its plan to augment security. A source in the NF Railway headquarters here informed the CCTVs would be set up at New Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Lumding, Mariani, Rangiya and New Bongaigaon and tenders were floated inviting bids for the same. The NF Railway has so far installed CCTVs at Guwahati, Dimapur.....

15 security personnel killed in ambush in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 24 (UNI) Fourteen Indian Reserve Battalion personnel and a policeman were killed and eight others injured in an ambush by suspected militants at Zouzangte village here today. Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who met the injured at the JN hospital, also visited the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) where the bodies of the jawans were kept. Paint factory owner accused of polluting river produced before court

Agartala, Feb 24 (UNI) Paint factory owner Rajuram Sau, who was earlier arrested in connection to polluting river howrah by disposing chemicals from the factory, was today produced before the court here, police said. The owner, reportedly, said he had obtained necessary licence from the District Industry Department in 2003 before setting up his Thiner manufacturing industry at Kashipur, near here.
