Haryana adds 15 lakh tonne rice to Central pool

Chandigarh, Feb 24 (UNI) The Haryana government has delivered 15.65 lakh metric tonnes of rice to the Central pool so far this season.

Of this, 11.79 lakh tonnes of rice has been delivered by the six government procuring agencies and the millers have contributed 3.85 lakh metric tonnes of rice in the Central pool, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said today.

He said HAFED had contributed 5.19 lakh tonnes of rice followed by Food and Supplies Department 3.55 lakh tonnes, Agro Industries Corporation 1.38 lakh tonnes, Confed 1.02 lakh tonnes, Haryana Warehousing Corporation contributed 55,953 tonnes and FCI 8000 tonnes.

Kurukshetra district is leading in delivering rice to the Central pool by delivering 3.42 metric tonnes of rice followed by karnal, which had contributed 2.61 lakh metric tonnes.

Fake currency racket busted, five held

Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 6 (UNI) District police today busted a fake currency racket by arresting five of its members and recovering fake currency worth Rs 3.5 lakh along with a scanner and printer. Speaking to media here, District Superintendent of Police Soumya Mishra said the fake currency was seized just before its circulation in the market. She said V Iylaiah, a native of Gorikothapalli village of Regonda mandal, while serving a sentence in Warangal Central Prison on charges.....

TNLA activities eliminated in Tamil Nadu: Police

Tiruchirapalli, Mar 6 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu police today claimed to have curbed the Tamil Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA), a banned extremist outfit in the Northern and Central parts of the state. Talking to newspersons here, Mr K Radhakrishnan and Mr M S Jaffar Sait, Inspector Generals of Police, Northern and Central Zones respectively said with the active coordination between the police of both the zones, TNLA activists were eradicated from Perambalur and Cuddalore districts. HC upholds land acquisition for NLC

Chennai, Mar 6 (UNI) Madras High Court today upheld land acquisition proceedings of the Tamil Nadu government in Cuddalore District for the second mine expansion scheme of Neyveli Lignite Corporation. A Division Bench comprising Justices P D Dinakaran and P P S Janarthana Raja upheld the proceedings by an order dated April 24, 2003 of the state government while dismissing a batch of petitions from K Ramakrishnan and others, challenging it.
