Gold and silver worth 17 lakhs looted

Gandhidham, Gujarat Feb 24 (UNI) As many as ten to fifteen unidentified miscreants robbed gold and silver worth Rs 17 lakhs from a goldsmith who was returning home from his jewellery shop in the town last night.

Police sources said the miscreants, who came on motorbikes, had intercepted the goldsmith travelling on his two-wheeler at Sector five road. They snatched the bag containing 1500 grams gold and 15 kg silver and fled away from the scene after the crime.

In view of increasing shop breaking cases reported in the area for the last few months, goldsmith was carrying the stocks with him.

Police, on being informed about the incident, sealed all the exit points and launched a combing operation to nab the culprits however no arrests have been made so far.

Woman killed as truck turns turtle

Kolhapur, Feb 24 (UNI) A woman was crushed to death under a truck which turned turtle on the Kolhapur-Ratnagiri highway near Ambavade village this afternoon. The woman was ushering a buffalo which too came under the truck and was killed. The deceased woman has been identified as Manjubai Laxman Shipugade (55). The truck was carrying sugarcane to the Warna Sugar Factory and turned turtle at a turning after the driver lost control, police said. UNI.....

Six arrested, IMFL worth Rs 2.16 lakh seized in Anand

Anand, Feb 26 (UNI) Sleuths of Anand police arrested six persons in connection with the seizure of 45 boxes of India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 2.16 lakh at Anklav-Umreta railway crossing. 540 bottles of IMFL along with a Mahindra jeep and two mobiles totalling Rs 4.43 lakh were seized last night, police said. Hanif alias Raju, Alambhai Musada, Dahesaram Prajapati, Dilip Marwari(Ahmedabad), Rakesh Shankar Prajapati (Ahmedabad) and Bansi Bishnoi(Rajasthan) were among the arrested. UNI.....

GOACAN to observe Consumer Rights Awareness Fortnight

Panaji, Feb 27 (UNI) The Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) will observe a Consumer Rights Awareness Fortnight from March one. It seeks to address the lack of awareness on consumer rights, the complaint procedures and redressal mechanisms available to consumers in Goa. During the fortnight, GOACAN will join consumer organizations all over the world on World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, to tackle 'unethical drug promotion' and its impact on the health of the consumers.
