''The rest of the fleet will be blacklisted.'' State-run PIA could not be immediately reached for comment.br /br / The decision is likely to come into force in about 10 days, the EU source said, once made official by the European Commission.br /br / He said the decision could cause disruptions to passengers because the airline had flight connections to Britain, France, Germany, Greece, Italy and the Netherlands.br /br / A Pakistani diplomat in Brussels said the airline was working to address the EU's concerns, which focused on maintenance problems and old aircraft.br /br / ''It is for the airline to take steps to alleviate the situation and they are already doing that, '' the diplomat said.br /br / ''I think there is a great effort by PIA and also by the European officials that passengers should not suffer too much from this, '' he said.br /br / Last year the Commission banned nearly 100 airlines from operating in the bloc, targeting mostly African carriers after a spate of fatal crashes involving European passengers.br /br / In addition, Bulgaria, which joined the EU in January, has suspended five carriers from flying to the rest of the bloc as well as Iceland, Norway and Switzerland until the companies achieve necessary safety standards.br /br / Those carriers are Air Sofia, Bright Aviation Services, Heli Air Services, Skorpion Air and Vega Airlines.br /br / The carriers are not being placed on the EU blacklist.br /br / ''The Aviation Safety Committee has expressed its satisfaction from Bulgaria's measures, due to which there are no Bulgarian airline companies included in the blacklist, '' the Bulgarian transport ministry said in a statement.br /br /br /Reuters/data_content added_date2007-02-24T01:05:31+05:30/added_datetags aviationeuairlinesleadpakistan, european union, ban, international, airlines, 27 country, bloc, safety, concern

VHP to commence Hindu Jagarna Yatra from Nov 20

Vijayawada, Feb 24: The santh mahatmas of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) would commence a month-long 'Hindu Jagarna Yatra' from November 20 for awakening the Hindu society, VHP national secretary Y Raghavulu said.

Talking to sources here, he said about 25,000 mahatmas would tour six lakh villages across the country to propogate stopping of conversions and encourage Sahapanti Bhojana.

Eight injured,100 trapped in UK train crash

London, Feb 24: Eight passengers were seriously injured and more than 100 trapped when a London to Glasgow train derailed in northwest England on Friday, rescue services said.

''Eight people were seriously injured and we have 40 walking wounded accounted for from one of the carriages,'' said Claudine Shacklock, a spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service, giving the latest update on the train carrying 180 passengers.

Washington, Feb 24: The United States and India have agreed to begin adjusting their policies to enable greater trade in high technology, part of efforts to cement their fast-growing economic and political relations.
