ECR CPRO surrenders, released on bail

Patna, Feb 24 (UNI) East Central Railway's Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) A K Chandra today surrendered before Patna Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Sushma Sinha, who had granted him bail in connection with a fraud case.

Mr Chandra was involved in issuing a press note at Hajipur on a Press Information Bureau (PIB) letterhead, without any authorisation.

The CJM had released Mr Chandra on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 10,000 and two sureties of like amount, as he was earlier granted anticipatory bail by district and sessions judge of Patna in the same case.

The press note in question contained materials to refute allegations levelled against the Railway Minister Lalu Prasad by JD(U) national spokesman Shivanand Tiwari for extending undue favour in increasing the rate of bedroll for passengers in the trains.

A case in this connection was lodged by Mr Tiwari on February 9.

Assistant commissioner sent to jail

Patna, Feb 24 (UNI) Special vigilance judge of Patna S P N Singh today remanded an assistant commissioner of commercial taxes and a tout in judicial custody in a bribery case. During the day accused assistant commissioner of commercial taxes in Gaya circle Kapildev Singh anda tout Sidhanath Prasad Munib were produced by the officials of vigilance bureau before the designated judge who sent them to jail till March 9 next. According to the charges accused were arrested by the bureau.....

Power strike affects train services

Patna, Feb 27 (UNI) A 24-hour strike resorted by by powermen in Bihar beginning at 0600 hours today forced the railway authorities to cancel and reschedule a number of trains. Railway sources said that the 2397 Gaya-New Delhi Mahabodhi Express, Dehradoon-Howrah Express, 707 Dehri-Gaya express, and 8612 Ranchi-Varanasi Express were among several long distance trains cancelled due to shortage of power supply. The 2308 Jodhpur-Howrah express and 2312 Kalka-Howrah Mail among a number of trains were rescheduled, UNI.....

6 SP activists booked for assaulting cop

Mahoba, Feb 24 (UNI) Six ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) activists have been booked for assaulting a police officer during the recent visit of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav here. Sub-inspector R D Verma, deployed at Bahilpur police station in Chitrakoot district, had alleged assault by the SP activists on February 18, when he tried to stop them from entering the city in an unauthorised manner. Police Superintendent Gyan Singh today said arrest orders against the accused had been issued......
