Congmen arrested during eviction of unauthorised dwellers

Udupi, Feb 24 (UNI) Over 19 Congressmen including former MP, Vinay Kumar Soarake, former MLA from Karkala, Gopal Bandary, the DCC President M A Gafoor were today arrested when they tried to disrupt the eviction work of unauthorised occupation by 45 families at Admar in the Tenka Yermal Gram Panchayat in Udupi district.

Police said the partymen rushed to Admar in the morning to prevent the work in which revenue officials and large number of Police engaged. The 4.5 acre of land was meant for a veterinary hospital, staff quarters and weekly market.

After release, about 150 party workers once again went to the spot and allegedly abused gram panchayat president and secretary and demanded alternative sites.

Govt notifies 21-member group to help draft rules on forest bill

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) The government today notified a 21-member technical support group to draft rules for implementation of the forest bill. The team will be headed by retired IAS officer S R Shankaran, according to an official release. The technical support group was set up in the wake of the enactment of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 in January for carrying out the provisions of the Act......
