Congmen arrested during eviction of unauthorised dwellers

Udupi, Feb 24 (UNI) Over 19 Congressmen including former MP, Vinay Kumar Soarake, former MLA from Karkala, Gopal Bandary, the DCC President M A Gafoor were today arrested when they tried to disrupt the eviction work of unauthorised occupation by 45 families at Admar in the Tenka Yermal Gram Panchayat in Udupi district.

Police said the partymen rushed to Admar in the morning to prevent the work in which revenue officials and large number of Police engaged. The 4.5 acre of land was meant for a veterinary hospital, staff quarters and weekly market.

After release, about 150 party workers once again went to the spot and allegedly abused gram panchayat president and secretary and demanded alternative sites.

No political pressure on CAG: V N Kaul

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Comptroller and Auditor General of India Vijayendra N Kaul today asserted that there was no political interference in the functioning of the Supreme Audit Institution and vowed to maintain ''the highest degree of independence, reliability and honesty'' in its functioning. He admitted that corruption of an administrative nature could be prevalent at lower levels in the functioning of the institution but warned that anyone found guilty of indulging in such acts would be dealt with.....

K'taka govt to provide shelter to 13.5 lakh families by 2008-09

Mysore, Feb 25 (UNI) Karnataka government has taken up an ambigious project to provide shelter to about 13.5 lakh houseless families by the year 2008-09 at a cost of Rs 600 Crore, Minister for Housing D T Jayakumar said today. Talking to newsmen here, he said that by 2007-08 nine lakh houses would be constructed and remaining the following year. Already construction of 2.35 lakh houses were in final stages of completion. Agitations against final verdict of CWDT continues

Mysore, Feb 25 (UNI) Agitations against final verdit of Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT) continued in the Cauvery basin districts of Mysore, Mandya and Chamarajanagara today.
