Central Excise day observed in Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 24 (UNI) The Central Excise day was celebrated in Meghalaya today.

The day was observed to mark the day of enactment of the Central Excise&Salt Act, 1944.

Observing the day, North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor Pramod Tandon lauded the effort of the Central Excise department officials for the cause of nation building process despite working in difficult terrain of this part of the country.

He said the north eastern region was still having poor connectivity and lacked proper industrial growth.

He said the region's vast bioresources and government's policy to open border trade with neighbouring countries would economically benefit the people.

Haryana adds 15 lakh tonne rice to Central pool

Chandigarh, Feb 24 (UNI) The Haryana government has delivered 15.65 lakh metric tonnes of rice to the Central pool so far this season. Of this, 11.79 lakh tonnes of rice has been delivered by the six government procuring agencies and the millers have contributed 3.85 lakh metric tonnes of rice in the Central pool, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said today. He said HAFED had contributed 5.19 lakh tonnes of rice followed by Food and Supplies Department 3.55 lakh.....

Monica case: Superintendent deposes

Bhopal, Mar 6 (UNI) A local court today recorded the statement of the Superintendent, Passports Office, in a fake passports case against underworld don Abu Salem and his starlet-girlfriend Monica Bedi. ''The passports of Danish Baig (Salem), Rubina Baig (Salem's wife Samira Jumani) and Fauzia Osman (Monica) were sent for police verification from my office.
