Art of Living plans yatra against female foeticide in Punjab

Jalandhar, Feb 24 (UNI) The Art of Living foundation will undertake a campaign 'Beti Sneh Sanjivni Yatra' against female foeticide in Punjab, which has the poorest female child sex ratio in the country.

''The yatra, with United Nations Population Fund, will cover 17 towns in the districts of Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Mansa, Bathinda and Kapurthala, which are the worst-affected districts of Punjab,'' Dr Richa Chopra from Art of Living foundation and Ms Urmila Bendre from United Nations Population Fund jointly informed media persons here today.

Dr Chopra said that the yatra, from March 26 to April 13, would spread the message through posters, banners, hoardings and placards, of saving the girl child and refraining from female foeticide.

The yatra in 17 towns would walk through markets, residential colonies and other areas of the towns.

She said that saints from other religious and spiritual orders would also participate in the campaign to spread the message of love and awareness for the girl child in society.

UP, Haryana farmers clash; one killed

Saharanpur, Mar 7 (UNI) A man was killed and 10 others seriously injured in a firing between the Uttar Pradesh and Haryana farmers in Fatehpur Jat village of the district today. House tax defaulters face rotten garbage up front!

Allahabad, Feb 24 (UNI) Allahabad Nagar Nigam has adopted a unique method for realisation of house tax from defaulters. The officials selected five big defaulters in posh civil lines area here and dumped truck loads of rotten garbage in front of their houses. This resulted to two of them depositing the house tax, while three others expressed their inability. Rumour of bomb in DRM's saloon

Jabalpur, Mar 7 (UNI) Panic gripped local railway station after spread of a rumour about a bomb and foreigners' presence in the saloon of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Jabalpur.
