Amway expects a turn over of Rs one crore per year

Gangtok, Feb 24 (UNI) Amway India, a subsidiary of US based 6.2 billion Amway Corporation, expects Rs one crore turnover in Sikkim this year.

Company Associatte Vice President K Shankar Narayan today told newsmen at the launch of its office here that,'' Sikkim with highest per capita income in the country has a huge potential for business and we hope to do a business of Rs one crore in a year time.'' Mr Narayan said the company had a business turn over of Rs 140 crore in the eastern region with a market share of 32 per cent.

He said Amway India in Sikkim would cater to the needs of the interior towns and area and enhance brand visibility adding that the company had registered a robust growth of 17 per cent last year in India.

The direct selling major, finished the 12 month period at Rs 738 crore from Rs 638 crore in the previous year.

The company had already opened its business in 2500 towns and cities and contributed more than Rs 175 crore to the government exchequer in form of taxes and duties.

The company, which started with only six healthcare products, now manufactures more than 80 products, including 30 varieties of beauty products in the Indian market accounted for 60 per cent of the turn over.

Mr Narayan said the company at present has four product categories-- Nutrition and wellness, cosmetics, home care and personal care products.

About 85 per cent of the products sold in the country are produced at the facilities of five contract manufacturers, he added.

The company also generated 2500 jobs directly or indirectly, he claimed.

India PC market records 25 per cent Y-o-Y growth

Mumbai, Feb 25 (UNI) In a year that witnessed all-round economic growth, the India Client Personal Computer (PC) market witnessed a 25 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) growth in unit shipments (CY2006 over CY2005), according to a release by IDC's India Quarterly PC Tracker, 4Q 2006. SEBI bars Atlanta promoters from buying, selling shares

Mumbai, Feb 25 (UNI) Market regulator SEBI has barred promoters of Atlanta from buying or selling shares in the company with immediate effect. The SEBI, in its preliminary order, has said the promoters, Rajhoo Bbarot and family, have allegedly misused public funds as indicated by the accounting irregularites in the company's books. The SEBI has initiated formal investigations in the case and has directed the exchanges not to approve the listing of Atlanta's convertible warrants. Atlanta had got listed.....
