30 wounded as AMU students open fire

Aligarh, Feb 24 (UNI) At least 30 persons, including 14 policemen, were grievously wounded when Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students resorted to firing and stone pelting here today.

Police said the incident occurred in Jakria area, where a builder and an AMU student fought over a dispute, which snowballed and the students torched builder's house, several other shops and a police outpost.

Students also pelted stones at police personnel, critically injuring 14 policemen. The situation was brought under control only after police fired in the air.

Fifteen students also sustained wounds and were rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.

According to the district administration, the situation, at present, was under control.

Abducted person rescued, 3 arrested

Etawah, Feb 24 (UNI) Police today arrested three criminals after an encounter and rescued a person from their clutches in Sorson area here. According to police, almost six criminals had abducted Mahabeer Batham last night. Police also recovered three countrymade rifles and several live cartridges from their possession. Law student, 3 others arrested for loot

Varanasi, Feb 24 (UNI) Police today solved last night's bus loot case with the arrest of four youth, including a law student, from Lanka area here. Police said Sohan Lal, Shyam Sunder, Jitendra Bahadur and Hemant Singh were arrested near Ravidas Temple. On interrogation, the quartet admitted to looting an Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus near Vishwa Sundari bridge in Lanka area. Two countrymade pistols, two knives, a motorcycle and Rs 7,600 in cash were recovered from them......

Teenager found murdered in Varanasi

Varanasi, Feb 24 (UNI) A teenager was found murdered at her uncle's house in the Shivpur area here today. Police said Divya (16), a resident of Patna, had gone to her uncle Shyam Sharma's house in the Tulsipur Colony area under Shivpur police station to appear for next month's intermediate examinations. This evening when her aunt returned from a neighbour's house, she found Divya lying dead inside a trunk. Police rushed to the spot and seized the body which bore.....
