TV artiste surrenders before Magistrate's court

Chennai, Feb 23 (UNI) Popular television artiste Devi Priya today surrendered before the magistrate's court and completed formalities for obtaining anticipatory bail, granted by the Madras High court.

Priya had moved the High Court last week and obtained advance bail following complaints lodged by her fiance William Issac's divorced wife Stella and second wife Hemamalini.

While Issac's first wife Stella lodged a complaint against him for not returning 45 gold sovereigns and Rs 45,000 cash even after the divorce, Hemamalini alleged in her complaint that Issac and Priya had threatened her.

After Hemamalini's complaint, Priya moved the High Court and obtained anticipatory bail as directed by the court and completed the formalities for bail.

Later, talking to media, Ms Priya, who has acted in many popular TV serials, said she was innocent and the cases were foisted on her.

She said the would reveal 'secrets' after the completion of the case.

EAC refused to issue environment clearance to Tipaimukh dam

Aizawl, Feb 27 (UNI) Action Committee for Tipaimukh Project (ACTIP) has renewed their demand of scrapping the mega project, following the Expert Appraisal Committee's (EAC) refusal to issue environmental clearance for Tipaimukh dam along Mizoram-Manipur border. An ACTIP release here today stated EAC for River Valley and Hydroelectric Projects of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF) did not accord environmental clearance to the project for the second time last week. The EAC had earlier also considered the project for environmental.....

Counter to Novartis challenge of Patents Act filed

Chennai, Feb 23 (UNI) Indian Patents Act Section 3 (d) was a legislative policy on patenting and was not violative of TRIPS, submitted Senior Counsel Anand Grover before Madras High Court today. Making a submission on behalf of the Cancer Patients Aid Association, Mr Grover said the agreement on TRIPS said member countries could have their own system of patenting, independent of TRIPS or their own policies. Innovative companies were attempting to block entry of generic products but courts had taken.....

Bihar govt presents Rs 33,257.08 cr budget for fiscal 2007-08

Patna, Feb 27 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who also holds the finance portfolio, today presented a tax free budget of Rs 33,257.08 crore, showing no deficit at the end of 2007-08 fiscal.
