Three arrested for possessing fake passports

Chennai, Feb 23 (UNI) Police busted a fake passport racket while conducting raids on hotels and lodges in the wake of President's visit to the city and arrested three people, including a Lankan National.

During a routine security drill, on the eve of President A P J Abdul Kalam's visit to the city today, police raided several lodges and hotels in the city.

The raids led to the seizure of the fake passports and the arrest of the Sri Lankan national, Yogamurthy and two locals -- Abdul Kareem (29) and Thameem (39).

They were being remanded in custody.

Inter-state dacoity gang busted

Mumbai, Feb 24 (UNI) Five members of an inter-state gang of dacoits, involved in Hawala rackets or Angandiya (courier) office, were nabbed today from Navi Mumbai, about 40 km from here, in a joint operation conducted by city and Rajasthan police. Briefing reporters here, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dhananjay Kamlakar said five members of a gang, involved in number of dacoities in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra, were arrested from Navi Mumbai this morning. Two farmers commit suicide in west Vidarbha region

Akola, Feb 24 (UNI) two debt ridden farmers in west Vidarbha region, comprising Akola, Washim and Buldhana district, committed suicide last week. According to police, Devidas Dattuji Umbarkar(45) of village Bhor in Akola district set himself on fire on February 18. He was admitted in the district hospital where he succumbed to the burn injuries on February 23, police said. He is survived by two sons. Police arrest two in Bentinck Street murder case

Kolkata, Feb 24 (UNI) In a breakthrough in the Bentinck Street murder case within two weeks, police today arrested two youths and recovered cash and jewellary from them. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Deputy Department) Gyanwant Singh said here today, that they had arrested two youths--Santosh Yadav and Pradip Jha--in relation to the murder of Arjun Yadav in Bentinck Street two weeks back.'' While Santosh was nabbed from Jayantipur at around 2330 hours while he was trying to escape into Bangladesh.....
