Texas Instruments to register downward price revision in mobiles

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) US-based Texas Instruments Incorporated today announced its third generation GSM solution for the ultra low-cost handsets keeping in view a boom witnessed in the mobile telecom sector and growing demand for affordable handsets.

This chip is specifically designed to enhance the user experience with added features and improvements. This includes dramatic improvements in voice clarity, decibel-level, battery life, support for a range of advanced features including enhanced color display, FM stereo, MP3 ring tones, camera and MP3 playback, an official release said.

''This product is, however, available only to handset manufacturers. It is not open for sale to the general public,'' a company official clarified in the release.

LoCosto ULC single-chip platform will reduce electronic bill of materials (e-BOM) by upto 25 percent compared to the current generation, the release said.

Farmers agree to withdraw case against Piccadily distillery

Patiala, Feb 23 (UNI) A compromise has been reached between farmers and Piccadilly Sugar and Allied Industries Ltd, owned by former Haryana minister Venod Sharma in this district's Hariayu Khurd villagers, over crop loss due to industrial effluents. According to police, Rs 4.50 lakh have been paid to affected farmers by the management of the sugar factory and distillery and in lieu the farmers have agreed to to withdraw the police case. Timex earmarks Rs 24cr for expansion, launches new collection

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Watch-maker Timex has set aside Rs 24 crore for expansion which includes setting up of a manufacturing unit in Himachal Pradesh and opening 120 outlets across the country by next year.
