Shaukat Ali denies he was taken in custody

Panipat, Feb 23 (UNI) Rana Shaukat Ali, who lost five of his children in the Samjhauta Express tragedy, today denied that he was ever taken in custody by the police.

TV reports had last night quoted some unnamed Pakistani officials saying that Shauakat Ali was missing ever since he left Delhi yesterday and was probably taken in custody by Indian police.

''I was not taken in custody. I was brought here from Delhi for the identification of my children,'' he said.

Ali was one of the eyewitnesses who reportedly saw two suspects who had got off the Samjhauta Express minutes before the blasts that left 68 people dead on Sunday.

He ealier identified the bodies of his five children-- Ayesha (15), Bilal (13), Meer Hamza (11), Abdul Rehman (6) and Asma (4).

He said he would like to take them to Pakistan for burial.

Railways pay compensation to Samjhauta victim in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) The Railways today paid interim compensation to the next of the kin of Yasmeena Qureshi, who died in the Samjhauta express blast at Panipat in Haryana. Official sources said an official of the Northern Railway arrived here from Delhi and paid an interim relief of Rs 85,000 in cash to Mohammad Maqbool Qureshi, the husband of Yasmeena. Luggage tags, restricted platform entry on Thar Express

Jaipur, Feb 23 (UNI) In the wake of devastating bombings on Samjhauta Express, unprecedented security measures were put in place on Thar Express, which connects India and Pakistan on the Rajasthan border. The train is scheduled to depart after midnight from Jodhpur. Measures like luggage tags, travel permission to only those who have confirmed tickets, restricted platform entry and patrolling of the tracks have been introduced on the train connecting Monabao and Khokrapar. Rajasthan's second largest recruitment drive of teachers

Jaipur, Feb 23 (UNI) Rajasthan is going for the second largest recruitment drive in the educational sector with the appointment of 38, 010 teachers in the state this year. Rajasthan Education Minister Ghanshyam Tiwari, while addressing a press conference here today, said 2.69 lakh applicants would appear for the examination for the appointment of 38,010 teachers including 450 lecturers conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission on February 25.
