SC notice to Coca Cola in compensation case in Jaipur

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notices on a petition filed by Hindustan Coca Cola challenging the order of District Consumer Forum, Jaipur, directing it to pay a compensation of Rs 27,000 to a buyer.

A bench comprising Justices B N Agarwal and P P Naolekar issued notices to Sita Devi and the other respondent, who had filed a complaint when a foreign body was found floating in a bottle of Thumbs Up on June 5, 2004.

The District Forum sent the bottle for examination to State Central Public Heath Laboratory and the same was examined under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act (PFAA).

The petitioner, who has lost the case throughout, had contended before the apex court that it was not clear whether food substances including beverages can be only tested by an authorised laboratory prescribed under the PFAA.

CBI files closure report against CGHS

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation filed a closure report today against Vijeta Cooperative Housing Society. The CBI counsel submitted before Special CBI judge GP Mittal that there was no evidence on record against the society. The judge put the hearing for order on March 12. Gang of cheats busted

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) With the arrest of three people from South Delhi, police have busted a gang of cheats, who cheated banks and couriers companies of more than Rs 10 lakh. Jiya Faisal, Vishal Aggarwal and Ajay Java allegedly used fake identity papers and used credit cards to cheat the companies. They were arrested yesterday from their hideout in South Delhi's Lado Sarai Area. Police recovered five mobile phones, one television set, six credit cards and gold worth more.....
