Salman handed over to Haryana Police

Bikaner, Feb 23 (UNI) Salman Ahamed, arrested by the Rajasthan Police here in connection with the Samjhauta Express train blast, was handed over to the Haryana Police today.

Bikaner district Superintendent of Police Ashok Rathore said Salman, who resembles the sketches of the prime suspects in the blast case, has been handed over to the Haryana police for interrogation.

He has been taken to Panipat where the blast took place last Sunday.

The Rajasthan police and the Military Intelligence had already interrogated him, police sources said.

The police was able to extract some vital information from Salman who was arrested from a brothel in the Rampura area alongwith a female accomplice Saroh alias Samra yesterday.

Salman who lives in Mumbai is a history sheeter.

The kerosene and the bottles found at the brothel resemble the one recovered from the train, being tested at the Forensic Science Laboratories.

Allahabad, Feb 23 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today dismissed a writ petition seeking disqualification of the remaining 24 rebel BSP MLAs, after the recent Supreme Court verdict. Earlier, 13 other rebel BSP MLAs were disqualified by the SC. A total of 37 MLAs had formed the Loktantrik Bahujan Dal (LBD) after splitting in two groups in 2003 and later merged with the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh. Leopard kills 17 sheeps and goats in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) A leopard killed 17 sheeps and goats and injured four others in north Kashmir, an official spokesman said. A leopard entered the cowshed of one Gani Bakerwal at Burnate, Boniyar, in the north Kashmir district of Baramulla late last night, the spokesman said. However, before the leopard could be caught, he killed 15 sheeps and two goats and injured four. Leopard later escaped back into the nearby forest, he said. About a dozen people have been killed.....

Firm fined Rs 4 lakh in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Commercial Taxes Department has imposed a fine of Rs 4.22 lakh on a firm against illegal tranfer of 'pashmina' from Leh to Srinagar in a bid to evade sales tax. On a tip-off that M/S Altaf and Brothers had transported 1250 kg of 'pashmina' from Leh to Srinagar through the Indian Airlines, state vigilance organisation officers along with the Sales Tax Department carried out a joint surprise check, Commercial taxes spokesman said......

Former-Cong councillor shot dead by nephew

Lucknow, Feb 23 (UNI) Former Congress councillor Satish Sharma was shot dead by his nephew in Ghaziabad's Patel Nagar area this afternoon. Police said here Sharma was shot point blank by his nephew Tika Ram at the former's residence in Patel Nagar. A property dispute is said to be the reason behind the crime. Sharma was rushed to Shivam nursing home, where he was declared brought dead. A named FIR has been lodged against Tika Ram, who is absconding. UNI.....
