Police Constable arrested on bribery charge

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) A Police Constable attached to Ranebennur Rural Police station (DSP Squad) was arrested on the charge of demanding and accepting a bribe for release of a person taken into custody illegally.

The Lok Ayukta sleuths laid a trap on February 20 based on a complaint from one B Krishnamurhty that his friend Manjunath was illegally taken into custody by Constable G B Kale on February 17 and that Kale was demanding Rs 50,000 from Manjunath's wife Jayamma for his release. Jayamma informed Kale that she had readied Rs 15,000 and the latter directed her to hand over the money to Head Constable Manjappa and his other associates -- Constables Savoor and Patil. Kale was immediately taken into custody by the Lok Ayukta police and produced before a Magistrate, according to a Lok Ayukta release here today.

Manjunath was released on February 21 and based on his statement, the Lok Ayukta police were on the look out for the other three Constables.

A cassette, in which Kale demanding bribe to release Manjunath was recorded, Kale's motorcycle and mobile were seized, the release said.

Two more bodies recovered from Arabian Sea

Jamnagar, Feb 27 (UNI) Two more bodies of the missing fishermen were brought to the shore by the fellow fishermen who saw the floating bodies off Jakhho in the Arabian Sea last night. Earlier on last Saturday, Coast Guard, engaged in the search operation of seven missing fishermen, had recovered the body of one of them at 16 nautical miles off Jakhho and handed it over to the relatives after completing legal formalities. Last night, the fishermen found two bodies.....

Visakhapatnam, Feb 23 (UNI) The district excise officials today seized ganja, worth Rs 3.5 lakh stocked in eight gunney bags, from Rolegunta mandal here. Excise Circle Inspector Gangadhara Rao said following a tip-off, the Narisipatnam Excise Officials raided Bennabupalpatnam village and arrested G Viswesera Rao, who was trying to illegally transport the hemp to Orissa. Bihar assembly adjourned after pandemonium on EGS

Patna, Feb 27 (UNI) Bihar Assembly was adjourned following pandemonium by the RJD members demanding proper implementation of Employment Guarantee Scheme(EGS) in the state. Soon after the question hour, the RJD members trooped to the well of the House demanding proper implementation of the EGS. The CPI(ML) members also joined them. Shouting anti-government slogans, they alleged that schemes were not being implemented properly. Amid noisy scenes, Assembly Speaker began proceedings of the Zero Hour.
