Pak want to increase coaches, security in cross-border trains

Islamabad, Feb 23 (UNI) Pakistan Railways has proposed increasing the number of coaches of the Samjhauta Express and handing over its security to the Rangers in the wake of blasts in the Delhi-Lahore train.

The Railways also proposed to hand over to the Rangers the security of another India-Pakistan train service -- the Thar Express.

The News quoted Pakistan Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad here as saying that his department was willing to increase the number of cars from the present nine to 13.

''I will request the President and (the) Prime Minister to consider our proposal,'' he said.

''The Samjhauta plied between Lahore and Wagah on the Pakistan side, and covers a distance of few kilometres, whereas the Thar Express, travelling from Khokhrapar in Sindh to Munabao in Rajasthan, covers longer distance,'' Mr Ahmad said.

Prince Harry to be deployed in Iraq, wants to be on front

London, Feb 23 (UNI) Prince Harry, the third in succession to the British throne, and his squadron from the ''Blues and Royals'' will be deployed in Iraq in May despite Prime Minister Tony Blair's announcement that 1,600 British troops will be withdrawn at that time. The Prince, a Second Lt, will be leaving with 'A Squadron, of the Blues and Royals' as part of the next rotation of troops for Operation Telic. However, no details are yet known about.....

Foreign Secretary speaks highly of India-US ties

Washington, Feb 24 (UNI) Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon has spoken highly of the potential of emerging relationship between India and US saying, there is a determination on both sides ''to do whatever we can to carry this forward''. ''I leave Washington convinced not just to the potential of this relationship, but how important it is for us and how much potential it has to address not just our own concerns but even global issues,'' he told a press conference here.....

Arrangements in place for Urs at Sirhind

Fatehgarh Sahib, Mar 14 (UNI) An estimated 10,000 devotees from the country and from Pakistan and other countries will participate in the annual three-day Rouza Sharif Urs beginning from March 17 to 19 at the tomb of Sufi saint, Sheikh Ahmad Farooqui in Sirhind. This shrine is considered one of the holiest places in Islam. According to district administration officials around 250 pilgrims from Pakistan are expected to pay obeisance at the shrine. Muslims from Gujarat, Mumbai, Surat, Uttar Pradesh.....
