Oppn walkout over inaction against criminals

Bhopal, Feb 23 (UNI) The opposition Congress today staged a walkout in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly over abduction of government officials by a BJP office-bearer and his friends during cooperative elections in Bhind district.

Dr Govind Singh, who raised the issue through a calling attention notice, alleged BJP district general secretary Ambreesh Sharma and his friends had abducted Agriculture Development Officer Suratram Jatav during cooperative elections in Raun area two days back.

He alleged some other instances of abduction had taken place in the past week in which the BJP district general secretary and his friends were involved.

Police had not arrested them because of pressure from the ruling party despite the fact that the culprits were roaming freely. Mr Sharma held a press conference in Bhind yesterday.

Cooperative Minister Gopal Bhargava claimed free and fair elections were held in the whole state including Bhind for the first time.

Regarding the arrest of Ambreesh, he said police were constantly making efforts to nab the accused.

Special Purpose Coffee Fund on the anvil to help growers

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) A Special Purpose Coffee Fund, on the lines of the one introduced for tea plantations, is on the anvil to ensure replantation and rejuvenation of coffee in 80,000 hectares in the country, Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh announced today. Oppn stages dharna against GO, curbing of press freedom

Hyderabad, Feb 23 (UNI) The opposition parties in the state assembly today staged a dharna at the Gandhi Statue in the assembly premises to protest the GO 938, alleging that the state government was trying to curb press freedom through it. Leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) sat before the statue with placards and raised slogans against the Government's alleged undemocratic.....

CM says Oppn stalled proceedings on withdrawn GO

Hyderabad, Feb 23 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy alleged that the Opposition had unnecessarily wasted valuable time of the Assembly and forced its adjournment for the day today, without transacting any business on a GO that was withdrawn. He was referring to the pandemonium created by the Opposition in the house earlier, protesting against the issuance of GO 938 which empowered the Special Commissioner Information and Public Relations ''to lodge a complaint and for filing defamation cases.....
