Notorious criminal killed in police encounter

Hardwar, Feb 23 (UNI) A notorious criminal was killed in an encounter at Jagjeetpur crossing here, police said today.

Acting on a tip off from informers, the Special Operation Group (SOG) team, led by R B Chamola and the Kankhal police led by S O Surendra Singh Sawant, reached Jagjeetpur crossing at Kankhal where they tried to stop two motorcycle-borne suspects.

Finding themselves surrounded, the two started firing at the police party. The police returned the fire, killing one of them on the spot.

However, the other miscreant managed to escape in the darkness.

The police has identified the killed crimnal as Sandeep alias Gitti. Meanwhile, the police have started combing operations to nab the absconding miscreant.

Police said Sandeep had been associated with the dreaded Suneel Rathi gang and 20 cases of heinous crimes such as murder, loot and extortion had been registered against him in different police stations.

35 teachers issued notice over poor results

Badwani, MP, Feb 27 (UNI) In the wake of poor results in pre-board examination of class XII students in tribal welfare department's schools in Badwani district of Madhya Pradesh, 35 teachers had been issued notice. The notice was served by Badwani Additional Commissioner (Tribal Welfare) Sudhir Kumar Jain and asked them why their two increments should not be stopped in view of the poor results. 2 villagers hacked to death

Moradabad, Feb 23 (UNI) Two villagers were brutally murdered after being robbed by unidentified miscreants here late last night, police today said. Mangali and Ram Avtar were murdered, after being robbed in the Railway Line area. Their bodies were recovered today. A manhunt for the accused was on. UNI.....

4 criminals arrested

Varanasi, Feb 23 (UNI) Police today claimed to have worked out a series of crimes with the arrest of four criminals from Shivpur area here. On being tipped off, police nabbed Vishal Singh, Manoj Sonkar, Rajbali Patel and Swaminath from Chandmari locality. A pistol, countrymade revolver and two motorcycles were recovered from the spot. On interrogation, the quartet admitted to a series of crimes including a recent murder and a robbery. Vishal also admitted to involvment in the October 10, 2005.....
