Nagpur ZP Health Officer, cashier in ACB net

Nagpur, Feb 23 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) here has arrested a Health Officer and a cashier of Nagpur Zilla Parishad (ZP) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a medical officer for releasing his salary and non-practising allowance (NPA).

Additional Superintendent of Police (ACB) Kishore Bele told UNI that cashier Digamber Wankhede was arrested last evening after he accepted the money from Dr Vinod Waghmare, a medical officer posted at the primary health centre in Kanholibara in the district.

ZP Health Officer Dr Arun Amle was arrested late last night after Wankhede informed the police that he had accepted the money on behalf of the officer, Mr Bele said.

While Wankhede was remanded to police custody today, Dr Amle has been admitted to a hospital here after he complained of chest pain, he said.

Wankhede and Dr Amle allegedly asked for the bribe to release Dr Waghmare's NPA for March, April and May 2006, and salary for January 2007. Interestingly, in his complaint, Dr Waghmare claimed he was told that the money was being collected to meet the expenses incurred on 'entertaining guests' during the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature held in Nagpur in December last and a visit by the Panchayati Raj Samiti recently, Mr Bele added.

TADA court admits Sanjay Dutt's plea

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) The Designated TADA court here today admitted cine actor and 1993 serial blasts convict Sanjay Dutt's plea seeking relief under the Probation of Offenders Act and directed the prosecution to file a reply on February 28 on his plea. TADA judge P D Kode passed the order on a plea moved by the actor's lawyer Satish Manshinde to call for a probation officer's report while considering his application for relief to Dutt instead of serving a jail.....

H C asks Beng gov to file fresh affidavit on its acquisition policy

Kolkata, Feb 23 (UNI) The controversy over acquisition of land in Singur, the proposed site for Tata Motors small car project, refused to cease with Calcutta High Court asking the West Bengal government today to file a fresh affidavit on its acquisition policy of agricultural land. A two-judge bench, headed by acting Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya, issued the ruling on a PIL alleging that no uniform policy was followed by the governmnet to get the land from landowners and farmers from.....

Capital punishment given for triple murder

Patna, Feb 23 (UNI) A sessions court of Patna today handed down capital punishment to a convict for murdering three persons at Bakri bazar under Kotwali police station in 2002. Additional distict and sessions judge Ram Pravesh Sharma pronounced the judgement to hang the accused, Sanaullah Khan till death while another accused Mohammad Hamid was aquitted for want of evidence. The convict hails from Baikunthapur police station area of Gopalganj district. The convict committed the triple murder of Ravindra Prasad, Sony.....
