Muslims victims of misunderstandings among ulema: Jawwad

Jaunpur, Feb 23 (UNI) Holding ulema (clerics) responsible for the ''poor'' condition of Muslims, prominent Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad said the community has fallen prey to misunderstandings among the ulemas.

''Ulema have a great influence on the Muslims. Therefore, its our duty to clear our misunderstandings and get united for the well being of the community,'' Maulana Kalbe Jawwed said while talking to newspersons here late last night.

Ulemas should do it as early as possible if they really want the betterment of the Muslims he said.

Exorting Muslims to actively participate in the coming Assembly elections, the Maulana stressed that ''a time has come when Muslims should show their real power to all the political parties.'' condemning the Delhi-Attari Samjhauta Express bomb blasts on Sanday last, he demanded the most stringest action against those involved in the case.

''A terrorist is a terrorist. He doesn't belong to any religion, caste or community. He is just a dreaded criminal,'' he said.

Whatever happened was painful but the Indo-Pak relations should not be affected by the incident because this is the eventual aim of the terrorists, he added.

Three robbers held

Kochi, Mar 2 (UNI) Police today arrested three members of a robbery gang from Muvattupuzha in this district. DIG Central Zone Revada Chandrashekar said the robbers hailing from Theni in Tamil Nadu were nabbed by police and people. The DIG said the gang had looted about 213 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs 1.60 lakh in cash from various homes in Idukki, Ernakulam amd Malappuram districts. Police were on the look out for five more members of the gang, Mr Chandrashekar said......

Women urge Puducherry CM to rescue their sons from Kuwait

Puducherry, Mar 2 (UNI) The intervention of the territorial administration was sought by three women here to ensure the rescue of their sons, who were allegedly being tortured in Kuwait. Talking to newspersons here, they said the Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy was urged to ensure that the boys are rescued. The Chief Minister assured them to redress their grievances, as he had already written a letter to the Union Government, based on a complaint received by his office in this.....

Panchaloha idols missing from city temple

Chennai, Mar 2 (UNI) Two Panchaloha idols were reported missing from the Lord Venugopalaswamy temple at the Parry's corner area in the city. The incident came to light last evening when the main priest opened the temple last evening. When he started counting the 37 idols kept in the temple, he found two idols of Goddess Bhoodevi and Sridevi, missing. Temple authorities have lodged a complaint with the North Beach police, who have taken up the investigation. UNI.....
