MP's power stations' output less

Bhopal, Feb 23 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh's thermal power stations have registered a decline in generation, the Assembly was informed today.

In a written reply to Mr Ajay Singh (Congress), Power Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said, ''in 2002-03, the output was 14,559.94 million units and that fell to 14,015.13 mln units in the following fiscal and further declined to 13,540.82 mln units in 2005-06.'' Blaming technical problems, he added that 257 instances of wire theft -- a total length of 663 km -- took place in Shivpuri district over a span of three years. However, only 30 first information reports were registered.

''The Pichhore tahsil's Kararkheda village substation is not functioning for the three years due to such theft,'' the Minister added. The village is being supplied from other substations.

In reply to Mr Lakshman Singh Gaur (Bharatiya Janata Party), Jails Minister Antar Singh Arya said, ''the state's 118 prisons are housing 31,359 inmates against a capacity of 20,305.'' UNI

Sensex crashes by 455 pts during the weekend

Mumbai, Mar 17:  The BSE Sensex drifted lower by 454.59 points for the week ended yesterday, to settle at 12,430.40, compared with the previous week's closing of 12,884.99 on March 9, 2007. Similarly, the S&P CNX Nifty index of NSE also declined 109.45 points, to finish at 3,608.55, compared with the previous week's closing of 3,718. Man burns wife, kid

Raisen, MP, Feb 23 (UNI) A family dispute resulted in a 35-year-old factory worker employed in this district's Mandideep Industrial Area fatally burning his wife and one-year-old son at their residence today after dousing them with kerosene, the police said. Bharatsingh Narwaria committed the crime at about 1700 hrs. Chandabai (30) and the child died on the spot. Narwaria also sustained burns and was rushed to Bhopal for treatment. UNI.....

New train

Bhopal, Feb 23 (UNI) The Valsad-Kanpur Udyogkarmi Express will begin its maiden journey on February 28 and ply once a week -- leaving Valsad on Thursdays and Kanpur on Fridays. The 2943 Down Udyogkarmi Express will leave Valsad at 1940 hrs and reach here at 1045 hrs the following day. The 2944 Up Udyogkarmi Express will leave Kanpur at 0800 hrs on March 2, arrive here at 1600 hrs and reach Valsad at 0745 hrs, a Bhopal Railway Division release said.....
