Metal rises further on higher advice

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) Metals rose further today on higher advice and London Metal exchange moved upward today, traders at the Bombay Metal Exchange said.

In the ferrous category, copper heavy and copper utencil hiked by Rs 900 and Rs 1500 per quintal on better buying support. Brass utencils and brass cutting also shot up by Rs 300 and Rs 500 per quintal, respectively, due to reduced stock supply.

In the non-ferrous category copper wire bar and zinc slab increased by Rs 1000 and Rs 200 per quintal on good demand.

Following are the spot metal prices per quintal: Ferrous metals: Copper heavy - Rs 31,400, copper utensils - Rs 29,500, brass utensils - Rs 23,300, brass cuttings - Rs 25,000 and aluminium utensils - Rs 11,900.

Non-ferrous metals: Copper wire bars - Rs 34,500, aluminium ingots - Rs 14,400, zinc slab Rs 18,200, lead ingots - Rs 8,100, tin slab - Rs 680 (per kg) and nickel cathode - Rs 1,980 (per kg).

Call money closes down at 6.20-6.50 pc

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) Interbank call money today ended lower at 6.20-6.50 per cent, compared to 6.40-6.80 per cent on the previous day, dealers said. The rates mellowed on sound cash supply in the market. Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram said on Thursday that he expected inflation to moderate in the coming days, helped by easing of supply shortages. The government and the Central Bank have recently taken a slew of measures to increase supply of food and basic commodities.....

Rupee closes weak at 44.20/21 against US dollar

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) The rupee today closed lower at 44.20/21 against US dollar from its previous close of 44.25/26 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market here on sustained good buying support of dollar by foreign and nationalised banks. The domestic unit opened higher at 44.24/26 against the previous day's close of 44.25/26 on scattered selling pressure of dollar by bankers. Rupee opens three-week lowest at 44.27/28 per dollar

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) The rupee today opened weaker at 44.27/28 against a US dollar, the lowest in the past 21 days, as compared to 44.24/25 per USD on lack of dollar demand by foreing banks, brokers said. The domestic unit opened at its lowest level amidst fears that another fall in the stock market may trigger capital outflow. The yen hovered near a four-year low against the dollar.
