M L Kumawat takes over Special Secretary (IS) in MHA

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Mr M.L. Kumawat today took over as Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Mr Kumawat, a 1972 batch Andhra Pradesh cadre IPS officer, was last posted as Additional Director General in the Border Security Force. Prior to his posting in BSF, he served in several important positions at the Centre and in the State.

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) After showing a rising trend for the last two days, the mercury in Delhi today dropped to 26.1 degrees Celsius. Cool Northerly winds led to a drop in the maximum temperature, from 27.8 degree C yesterday, to 26.1 degrees C today. Though clouds enveloping the skyline this morning led to a rise in the minimum temperature to 13.3 degrees C, the drop in the maximum temperature brought about by Northerlies led to a slight chill in.....

Govt to consider move for minimum 100 days Parliament sittings

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Government will consider, without amending the Constitution, the proposal of an all party meeting to have minimum 100 days sittings of Parliament in a year. A consensus among the political parties on the issue emerged at a meeting convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee this afternoon. Sources disclosed the Speaker said that he had no objection to their proposal. A formal request would be made by the Speaker to the Government to consider.....

Pak plane take off delayed because of 'technical glitch' : India

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) India today made it clear that the delay in the take off of the Pakistan Air Force plane that had come to evacuate the Pakistani nationals injured in the Samjhauta Express explosions, was because of a ''technical glitch'' as one of its engines had developed a problem and had to be repaired by the ground staff. Refuting media reports that the delay was because India wanted an ''undertaking'' from Pakistan for access to the evacuated passengers.....

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath today denied all claims of the Bharti-Wal-Mart JV being affected by the clarification sought by the PMO from his ministry, saying there was no need for a ''relook'' at the FDI policy since it is not allowed in retail. ''There would be no review of the existing FDI policy regarding the wholesale and cash-and-carry sectors. The PMO letter has just asked for its impact on the small retailers,'' Mr Nath.....

BJP wants Quattrocchi to be extradited

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Terming the detention of Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi in Argentina as ''curious'', the BJP today demanded that the Indian authorities extradite the Italian national. In his initial reaction after news of Quattrocchi's detention, BJP spokesman Ravishankar Prasad said,'' Quattrocchi has to be brought to India because he has many things to disclose.
