Loan recovery suspended in Tikamgarh: Minister

Bhopal, Feb 23 (UNI) Recovery of loans, land revenue and electricity dues will be suspended in Tikamgarh district, where the crop was damaged due to hailstorm, Energy Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya announced in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly today.

'Recovery was suspended, but no decision taken yet on waiving it'', Mr Vijayvargiya said in reply to a call attention notice moved by Mr Akhand Pratap Singh (BJP) and Mr Brijendra Singh Rathore(Cong).

The Minister announced suspension of electricity bill recovery to assuage Mr Rathore, who resorted to a sit-in in the well of the house, alleging the government was not forthcoming to give relief to the affected farmers. Mr Rathore later ended the dharna, Earlier, Minister of State for Revenue Narayan Singh Kushwaha said crop in 2500 villages spread over 30 districts were damaged due to hailstorm on February 10 and 11. At least 8 people were killed and 39 cattle perished in the calamity, he said, adding the district was facing drought for six years.

Responding to Mr Rathore's contention that no fund was available for transporting water, Mr Vijayvargiya said there was no shortage of funds to provide relief to the drought-hit as Rs 3 crore had already been sanctioned. Haryana to adjust more retrenched employees

Chandigarh, Feb 23 (UNI) In a major relief to regular retrenched employees of Group A and B, below the age of 55 as on May 18, 2006, the Haryana Government has decided to consider their cases for ''adjustment.'' Chief Secretary Prem Prashant earlier said the state government had formulated a scheme for readjusting regular retrenched Group C and D employees of Boards, Corporations, Co-operative Federations and other PSUs who had been retrenched by the previous Chautala government on account of closure.....

Railways pay compensation to Samjhauta victim in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) The Railways today paid interim compensation to the next of the kin of Yasmeena Qureshi, who died in the Samjhauta express blast at Panipat in Haryana. Official sources said an official of the Northern Railway arrived here from Delhi and paid an interim relief of Rs 85,000 in cash to Mohammad Maqbool Qureshi, the husband of Yasmeena. It was an interim relief and the full compensation announced by the Railway minister Lalu Prasad will be paid separately,.....

Luggage tags, restricted platform entry on Thar Express

Jaipur, Feb 23 (UNI) In the wake of devastating bombings on Samjhauta Express, unprecedented security measures were put in place on Thar Express, which connects India and Pakistan on the Rajasthan border. The train is scheduled to depart after midnight from Jodhpur. Measures like luggage tags, travel permission to only those who have confirmed tickets, restricted platform entry and patrolling of the tracks have been introduced on the train connecting Monabao and Khokrapar.
