Leopard kills 17 sheeps and goats in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) A leopard killed 17 sheeps and goats and injured four others in north Kashmir, an official spokesman said.

A leopard entered the cowshed of one Gani Bakerwal at Burnate, Boniyar, in the north Kashmir district of Baramulla late last night, the spokesman said.

However, before the leopard could be caught, he killed 15 sheeps and two goats and injured four.

Leopard later escaped back into the nearby forest, he said.

About a dozen people have been killed by leopards in the Kashmir valley during the past six months. Two leopards were also killed by the people during the same period.

Former-Cong councillor shot dead by nephew

Lucknow, Feb 23 (UNI) Former Congress councillor Satish Sharma was shot dead by his nephew in Ghaziabad's Patel Nagar area this afternoon. Police said here Sharma was shot point blank by his nephew Tika Ram at the former's residence in Patel Nagar. A property dispute is said to be the reason behind the crime. Sharma was rushed to Shivam nursing home, where he was declared brought dead. A named FIR has been lodged against Tika Ram, who is absconding. UNI.....

4 arrested, arms seized for illegal hunting in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) The Wildlife Protection Force has arrested four people for the illegal hunting of migratory birds at Hokersar on the outskirts of the city. Hokersar Wildlife Warden Abdul Rauf Zargar said they were arrested when the Wildlife department officials conducted the search in the Hokersar area after they noticed a vehicle parked inside the prohibited zone. They were arrested with arms and ammunition under the Wildlife Protection Act, Mr Zargar said, adding, ''one of the guns seized costs.....

HC orders removal of Haryana Pharmacy Council registrar

Chandigarh, Feb 23 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today ordered the removal of S N Nehra from the post of Registrar of Haryana Pharmacy Council and directed the state vigilance bureau to probe charges of financial irregularities against him. The High Court also slapped a fine of Rs One Lakh on Nehra, which is to be deposited with the state legal services authority.
