Khajuraho Fest begins on Feb 25

Bhopal, Feb 23 (UNI) The Khajuraho Festival of Dances 2007, an international event, gets underway at that world-renowned tourist destination on February 25 and would be inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Culture Minister Lakshmikant Sharma.

''The fest will conclude on March 3 and witness performances by artistes of national stature,'' Director (Culture) Pawan Srivastava told journalists here today.

The programme schedule is -- February 25: Kumkumdhar (Lucknow) Kathak, Kanaka Shriniwas (Delhi) Bharatanatyam group, Suchitra Harmalkar (Indore) Kathak; February 26: Ranjana Gouhar (Delhi) Odissi, Uma Rahul (Mumbai) Ballet (Santvani), Lata Singh Munshi (Bhopal) Bharatanatyam; February 27: Uma Murali Krishna (Chennai) Kuchipudi, International Chhau Dance Group (Puruliya, West Bengal) Chhau, West Bengal Chhau (Puruliya) Chhau, Vijaya Sharma (Bhopal) Kathak; February 28: Neena Prasad (Thiruvananthapuram) Mohiniattam, Nalini and Kamalini (Delhi) Kathak, Bindu Juneja (Bhopal) Odissi; March 1: Munna Shukla (Delhi) Kathak group, Priya Jayraman (Chennai) Bharatanatyam, V Anuradha Singh (Bhopal) Kathak; March 2: Geeta Mahalik (Delhi) Odissi, Jawahar Lal Nehru Manipuri Dance Akademi (Manipur) Manipuri, Shweta Mishra (Lucknow) Kathak; March 3: Kumkum Mohanti (Bhubaneswar) Odissi, Kala Mandalam Gopi (Kerala), Kathakali Sankalp Group (Delhi) Odissi.

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) Legendary tabla player Kishan Maharaj, violin virtuoso T N Krishnan, Kathak danseuse Rohini Bhate and theatre personality Gursharan Singh were today conferred Sangeet Natak Akademi's ''Ratna'' (Fellows) by President APJ Abdul Kalam at a function here today. Committee for modernisation of museums holds first meeting

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) A high-level committee constituted for modernisation of museums by the Ministry of Culture met informally for the first time here today to discuss modernisation of some of the museums in the country to bring them on par with the best in the world. INTACH to renovate 16th century fortess of Reis Magos in Goa:Rane

Panaji, Mar 3 (UNI) The Goa government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) for the renovation and restoration of the 16th century fortress Reis Magos, built by the Portuguese in 1551. The MoU was signed yesterday by Chief Secretary J P Singh and INTACH Chairman S K Mishra in the presence of Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane at an official function held at the Porvorim secretariat complex.
