Integrated transportation plan for NCR approved

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Project Sanctioning and Monitoring Group of the National Capital Region Planning Board has approved for undertaking a study for Integrated Transportation Plan for the National Capital Region (NCR) as a whole.

The study will prepare an integrated multi-modal transport system for the National Capital Region after assessing the level of utilisation, potential and deficiencies in the present transportation system.

Due emphasis would be given to strengthen existing corridors and requirement of new rail and road corridors in the NCR particularly between Delhi and NCR towns, regional centres, metro centres and among these urban nodes.

Based on the study a blueprint will be developed of an integrated multi-modal transportation system for the NCR with a phase-wise programme of its implementation. The study is expected within nine months.

Meanwhile, the Project Sanctioning and Monitoring Group also approved 5 projects with a total outlay of about Rs 4,474 crore and a loan component of Rs 584 crore by the NCR Planning Board in the sectors of power generation, transmission, improvement of sewerage system and urban renewal projects in the States of Haryana and Rajasthan.

A loan of Rs 500 crore has been sanctioned for the 1,200 MW Hissar Thermal Power Project to Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (HPGCL). Under this project, it is expected that 60 per cent of the power obtained from the proposed plant will be consumed in the NCR.

Two projects for Urban Renewal in Faridabad with a loan component of Rs 19.83 crore as also a loan for revamping of sewerage system at old Faridabad amounting to Rs 31.15 crore.

A fifth project entails augmentation of Transformer capacity and laying of transmission lines in Alwar, Rajasthan with a loan component of Rs 33.33 crore.

The Project Sanctioning and Monitoring Group (PSMG) met under the chairmanship of Mr M Ramachandran, Secretary, Union Ministry of Urban Development.

The meeting, which also discussed the progress of infrastructure development projects financed by the NCR Planning Board in the National Capital Region and Counter Magnet Towns, was attended by senior central and state level officers.

The NCR Planning Board is an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Urban Development and was established in 1985 with the twin objectives of preparing a Regional Plan for the National Capital Region and to finance selected infrastructure development projects in the region.

''The probe will bring out the facts of the case,'' said District Collector Faiz Ahmad Kidwai. ''Ulema have a great influence on the Muslims. Therefore, its our duty to clear our misunderstandings and get united for the well being of the community,'' Maulana Kalbe Jawwed said while talking to newspersons here late last night. Woman killed by tigress

Umaria, MP, Feb 23 (UNI) A woman has been killed in an attack by a tigress in the Bandhavgarh National Park in this district, park sources said today. Lunia Bai, 45 and four other women had gone to the Tala range in the park yesterday afternoon to collect wood when they were attacked by the tigress. Lunia died on the spot.
